Le Droit Park
LeDroit Park is a historic district adjacent to Howard University,
characterized by spectacular architecture and historic Victorian
houses. Originally conceived as a White suburb in the 1870s, the
neighborhood was integrated in 1893, and eventually became home to
many prominent Black Washingtonians. These days, LeDroit
Park boasts a vibrant, diverse community of students, young
professionals, and established residents.
Neighborhood Fiber Company's LeDroit Park colorway was inspired, in
part, by the ornamental plum trees that line the block of First
Street, NW, where our headquarters are located. The trees' deep purple
leaves present an eye-catching contrast to the green grasses and
ornamental shrubs planted outside the neighborhood's many brownstone
townhouses. Karida spends many happy afternoons sitting in a small
park at T and Third streets, knitting and enjoying the surrounding
gardens.
