Name the New Neighborhood Contest!
Check out these new colors! I’ve experimented with all three in different variations as part of the L’Enfant Color Series. Now, they’re all becoming part of the permanent Neighborhood Fiber Co. color family!
My only problem is naming them. I always struggle with picking new names for each color. Which neighborhood best reflects the color? What do I know about the neighborhood? So, this time, it’s up to you! Here are closeup shots of each color.
Next Wednesday, May 19, I will select the new color names from your suggestions. I will also randomly select three winners to each receive a skein of yarn in one of the new colors. And here are the rules/instructions for the contest:
- - Go to the comment section and leave your suggestion for neighborhood names for any or all of the colors.
- - Be sure to include your email address so I can contact you if you win.
- - Be sure to mention which color goes with which neighborhood.
- - ONLY Columbus, OH and Washington, DC area neighborhoods are eligible.
- - Don’t worry if someone else has already suggested your neighborhood. You can still comment with the same suggestion and be entered to win the yarn.
Now, I know that it’s hard to adequately capture colors on computer monitors. For this reason, folks local to DC or Columbus can go see the yarn in person at Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA or at Wonderknit in Columbus, OH.

May 14th, 2010 at 2:38 pmThat green is DEFINITELY Victorian Village! It makes me think of Goodale Park with all of the lilypads! I don’t know if I can get this specific, but the pink reminds me of downtown Dublin. Downtown (around 161 & High in Dublin- not the High you are thinking of, but where Jeni’s is in Dublin) is very colorful and sort of has that architectured-old feel to it. The blues make me think of Old Worthington- cute shops, farmer’s market, etc.
Yay for new colors! :)

Just kidding! How about Dennison Place (The Circles) which is a very pretty area with mini-parks. It’s a sub-neighborhood of University district/ Victorian Village.

May 17th, 2010 at 4:06 pmI vote Hill North for the pink! The gardens and yards this spring were awash with that color!
Or, i guess you could use tidal basin too…i hear they have cherry trees or something there? i can never see anything through the people & their fanny packs.

Anne Lindenfeld Says:
May 18th, 2010 at 10:37 amHow about “Tivoli” for the pink? It’s not exactly an official neighborhood name, but the Tivoli is certainly the center of Columbia Heights.
I like “Barnaby Woods” for the green. It’s where I live, and only a block from very green trees of Rock Creek Park.
Anacostia says blue to me. Well, in about 20 more years of cleanup.
Very fun exercise ! Thanks, Karida!
Mia Says:
May 18th, 2010 at 10:51 amHow about naming the blue Potomac? It isn’t a neighborhood but it is part of the whole area. And it is vital to whole region.
And the pinks remind me of the cherry blossoms around town in the spring. So maybe Tidal Basin Pink? Although they could be the azalea bushes in spring too. But I like Tidal Basin Pink.
arthella Says:
May 18th, 2010 at 2:34 pmalthough they’re not neighborhoods, please consider these noteworthy landmarks:
pink – the smithsonian
blue – hains point
green – rock creek park
Kathleen Says:
May 18th, 2010 at 3:54 pmI love Arthella’s suggestion of landmarks – but I’d suggest:
Blue = Air & Space Museum
Green = Rock Creek Park (largest National Park within a city!)
Pink = Tidal Basin (with the cherry trees in bloom)

PINK – Park of Roses Gazebo (at Whetstone)
