About Neighborhood Fiber Co.

About Karida Collins

I am a recovering academic with a serious fiber addiction. My best friend taught me to knit in 2003, and I haven’t put down the sticks since. Knitting is my passion, but I love dabbling in anything crafty, including needle felting, crochet, quilting, soap making, cross stitch, and embroidery.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. started in the kitchen of my Washington, DC basement apartment.  Inspired by all of my surroundings, I set out to provide the world with hand-dyed yarns and fiber inspired by and named to reflect the natural beauty and diverse neighborhoods found throughout the nation’s capital.  I am proud of the texture, loft, and sheen of the many yarns, from the finest lace-weight silk-and-mohair to the loftiest thick-and-thin wool.

Recently, Neighborhood Fiber Co. relocated to Columbus, OH and a new, larger studio space and partnership with Wonderknit yarn shop.  Washington, DC is still has my heart and my inspiration, though I am learning to love OH too.

As you browse the Web site, you’ll find Neighborhood Fiber Co. offers something for everyone, from veteran knitters and crocheters to those who’ve only recently picked up needles or hooks. If you have trouble finding what you’re looking for, just let me know–I’ll be happy to work with you to make sure you get exactly what you want. I love to hear from you!

After all, I’m a knitter too. I know what I like to knit with and work hard to create products that are more than a step above the rest. Products that reflect the beauty and history of this wonderful city.
