About Neighborhood Fiber Co.

About Karida Collins

I am a recovering academic with a serious fiber addiction. My best friend taught me to knit three years ago, and I haven’t put down the sticks since. Knitting is my passion, but I love dabbling in anything crafty, including needle felting, crochet, quilting, soap making, cross stitch, and embroidery.

I live at Neighborhood Fiber Co. headquarters with my partner, Erika and our two destructive cats. Neighborhood Fiber Co. came about because I figured it was the best way to make yarn a business expense. Erika’s still not so sure.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. is a Washington, D.C.-based purveyor of hand-painted yarns and rovings, knitting and crochet patterns, drop-spindle kits, and other products guaranteed to whet the crafty appetites of fiberholics everywhere.

Owned by local craftista, Karida Collins, the company is dedicated to providing fiber arts products rich in saturated colors that reflect the natural beauty and diverse neighborhoods found throughout the nation’s capital. In fact, I even name yarn colorways after some of my favorite places in the District. I am proud of the texture, loft, and sheen of the many yarns, from the finest lace-weight silk-and-mohair to the loftiest thick-and-thin wool.

As you browse the Web site, you’ll find Neighborhood Fiber Co. offers something for everyone, from veteran knitters and crocheters to those who’ve only recently picked up needles or hooks. If you have trouble finding what you’re looking for, just let me know–I’ll be happy to work with you to make sure you get exactly what you want. I love to hear from you!

After all, I’m a knitter and crocheters too. I know what I like to knit with and work hard to create products that are more than a step above the rest. Products that reflect the beauty and history of this wonderful city.
